Talking With Hands: Learn ASL with Clemson profesor

April 9 @ 7:00 pm - 8:30 pm

The Oak Bluffs Library, in collaboration with MV Signs Then & Now and Dr. Jodi Cripps, ASL Professor at Clemson University, welcomes you to join in learning and experiencing a way to revive signed language on Martha’s Vineyard. Come help encourage each other to learn some basic American Sign Language and fingerspelling to raise awareness that a shared signed language can positively break down and bridge various communication barriers and gaps that tend to distance family members and people on our Island today.
For hearing, hard of hearing, and deaf individuals; parents of infants and toddlers (infants at 6 months can learn sign); those with developmental and voice challenges; people challenged with English as a second language; or those who want to find a way to better communicate in quiet or loud places, such as restaurants, sports games, across a distance, or over a crowd. All are welcome.
