Available Martha’s Vineyard Library Services for Summer 2020

Last updated July 2, 2020

We are committed to the health and safety of our staff and the public. All Martha’s Vineyard public libraries have developed an island-wide library plan to resume library services. Working closely with our local Boards of Health, we will follow local and professional guidelines to prevent the spread of COVID-19.

All Vineyard library buildings are currently closed.

At Oak Bluffs, hold pickup will be available from 12pm-4pm Tuesday through Friday and 10am-1pm on Saturday.  Place holds online through the CLAMS catalog or call (508) 693-9433 for assistance in finding books on the shelves for pickup.  Learn more about contactless hold pickup at the Oak Bluffs Public Library.

Book Returns & Delivery
Book drops reopened in early to mid-June according to the chart above. Due dates were extended and no fines will be assessed.  Please note that all returned material is quarantined for up to 7 days, so items may remain on a patron’s account for a week even after they are returned.

Both our on-island and off-island library delivery services have resumed. Patrons may now order library materials from any CLAMS library. Please note that delivery of material takes longer than usual due to the quarantining measures that all libraries have in place. Your patience is appreciated.

Unavailable Services

Building access
Library buildings will be closed to the public until we can safely open. We have not yet set a reopen date and will await guidance from local and state officials before doing so.

In-Person Assistance
Library staff are not available to assist patrons in person, but are ready and available to offer remote help. Call us at (508) 693-9433 or email us at oakb_mail@clamsnet.org and we’ll get back to you as soon as we can.

Events and meeting room reservations
All in-person public events, public meetings, and private meetings have been cancelled until further notice. We do not know when we will reopen; when we do reopen, we do not expect to be open at full capacity right away.  It is better for everyone to make reservations when we know for certain that we can accommodate all expectations of groups who want to meet in our spaces and that we can ensure their safety.

Book Donations
We cannot accept your library donations yet. Please keep your materials donations (books, DVDs, CDs) until we’re able to take them.

Tax assistance
The library was hosting AARP tax assistance sites this year, but this service was postponed by the providers and customers have been notified.  The IRS has extended income tax filing and payment dates to July 15, 2020.
