Summer Reading for Children

Oak Bluffs Library’s Summer Reading Program begins Tuesday, June 18th with an ice cream kick-off party on the lawn. Our program helps to motivate children to read, maintain their reading skills during the summer months, and develop positive attitudes toward reading and books.

Our program requires nine hours of reading, and book titles and minutes are recorded in a reading log (see the children’s desk for a reading log). For every three hours of reading, children can bring their reading log back to the children’s desk to collect a summer reading prize.

At three hours: children collect a small toy

At six hours: children collect a gift card to a local Oak Bluffs business

At nine hours: children receive a summer reading t-shirt, a gift card to Ryan Family Amusement Game Room in Oak Bluffs, a raffle ticket to enter the drawing of our grand prize, and a star to write their name and hang on our library galaxy wall.

After that, for every three hours collect an additional raffle ticket.

Grand Prize: If we randomly draw your raffle ticket at the end of the summer, you will receive a school backpack full of about a dozen books selected just for you!

Second Grand Prize: The second ticket drawn will receive a bowling party at the Barn, Bowl & Bistro in Oak Bluffs!
