Bearing Witness to Black Consciousness: Leo Frame art gallery reception

July 13 @ 2:00 pm - 4:00 pm

When longtime island resident and teacher Leo Frame first picked up his camera in 1968 at Fisk University in Nashville Tennessee, it began a 12-year career photographing Black life at one of the most critical eras in our country’s history.

Mr. Frame’s lens soon was capturing musicians, politicians, athletes and soon-to-be historical figures, as his press pass as the in-house photographer for Maynard Jackson — the city of Atlanta’s first Black mayor — granted him access to history.

Mr. Frame’s photographs were stored away for over 40 years and only recently have they returned to light. We are honored to host this opening reception of Mr. Frame’s compelling work, provoking us all to reflect on where we have been and how far we still have to go.

Light refreshments will be served.
