From a Semester at SEA to Volcanic Eruptions? A Talk with Island-born explorer and scientist David Bouck

September 29, 2022 @ 6:00 pm - 7:30 pm

Learn first hand about what it is like to study abroad with an ocean-focused program and live on a boat for months. Mr. Bouck, whose career has taken him all over the world, will share his experience completing the SEA education program out of Woods Hole and expand on his work as an ecologist. Working for the Trustees of Reservations for 12 seasons and now with the Great Pond Foundation, as their Watershed Outreach Manager, Mr. Bouck has a wealth of knowledge about local ecology and conservation efforts. In addition to studying local environments, Mr. Bouck has worked with the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, United States Geological Survey, and the National Park Service. The latter of which brought him to the Big Island of Hawaii, where he experienced the 2018 eruption and summit collapse of Mount Kilauea–the largest in decades.

With a bachelor’s in Environmental Studies from Endicott College, a SEA study abroad semester on the ocean, and a master’s degree in coastal zone management from the University of Miami’s Rosenstiel School of Marine and Atmospheric Science, Mr. Bouck’s experiences can inspire other islanders to explore their surroundings at home and abroad.
