Frequently Asked Questions

How do I contact the library?

Please visit our Contact & Directions page to find the library’s phone number, fax number, physical and mailing addresses, and email address. The page also contains contact information for the library staff and trustees.

How do I login to my account?

By connecting to the library’s website from home and having your library card and PIN (Personal Identification Number), you can check the status of your account and renew and request items. See a staff member to obtain a PIN if you do not have one already.

From the library’s home page, click on “Account” button in the top-right section of the screen. Fill in the blanks for your library card number and PIN. Click on “Submit”. A description of your account activity will appear.

How do I renew or request something?

As of 2020, all eligible materials will automatically be renewed by the system. Most items are eligible for 3 renewals, barring strong demand.

To request something, after logging into your account, click on the “Catalog” button on the right-hand side of the screen. Find the item that you would like to place a hold on by searching the catalog.

If you need assistance searching for the item and/or would like a lesson in using the library’s catalog, please speak to a library staff member today!

Once you have located the item that you are searching for, click on the blue “Request” button. Next, select the library that you would like the item to be sent to by using the drop down menu near the center of the screen. Click on the “Submit” button and then you should receive a verification message that you placed a hold on the item.

When you are finished managing your account, click on the “Logout” button.

You may also request items by coming to the library in person, emailing oakb_mail@clamsnet.org or by calling the library at 508-693-9433 during our open hours.

How do I get an Oak Bluffs Library (CLAMS) card?

Island residents, Massachusetts residents, and island property owners/taxpayers will be issued a library card at no charge. For Non-Massachusetts residents there is a one-time $10 fee to support the library in lieu of taxes. Please bring a photo I.D. and/or proof of residency and mailing address when applying for a card. Rules may vary at other libraries. Materials may be returned to any CLAMS library (which includes all Martha’s Vineyard public libraries).

What if I can’t get to the library during open hours?

If you are unable to physically travel to the library, you may be eligible for our Outreach Service. More information can be found on our Outreach Services page.

If you are unable to pick up your items during our open hours, outdoor locker service is available upon request. Please email oakb_mail@clamsnet.org or call 508-693-9433 for more information.
