Located on the second floor of the library behind the Reference Desk, the circulating Martha’s Vineyard Collection showcases non-fiction books about our island and the characters who have inhabited it. From the volumes of Bank’s History of the Island to newer titles about getting the most out of your vacation, this collection can support genealogical and history research, or topical interest. A history rich with Portuguese diaspora, whaling, agriculture, art and photography, and rural landscapes–this collection is worth a look.
For the more serious researchers, we also have a Martha’s Vineyard Reference Collection that features out of print material and other rare items, including the Dukes County Intelligencer, a periodical of Island life. Located in the upstairs conference room, please ask the Reference Librarian for assistance if you would like to browse these materials.
If you can’t find that you are looking for, we’d be happy to refer you to any number of local organizations and resources. Please don’t hesitate to ask the Reference Librarian.
