Weather Spotter Training

May 16, 2023 @ 5:00 pm - 6:00 pm

Are you interested in the weather and severe storms? The SKYWARN Weather Spotter program is a National Weather Service (NWS) program that consists of trained weather spotters who provide reports of severe and hazardous weather to help meteorologists make life-saving warning decisions. Spotters are ordinary citizens who volunteer their time to report on hazardous weather impacting their community. The first steps in becoming an official NWS SKYWARN Weather Spotter for southern New England is to complete a short training class on weather hazards and how to report them.

This free class is open to anyone who simply wants to learn more about severe weather and there is no obligation to become a spotter! You will learn the basics of thunderstorm development and structure, how to identify potential severe weather features, basic severe weather safety, and be able to ask a meteorologist any questions you may have.
