Vineyard Vanguards with Tom Dresser
Vineyard Vanguards is a collection of biographies of some 45 Vineyarders who have left their mark on the Island either through their work or personality or experiences. This group of people, men and women, old and young, Black, white, Native, immigrants and locals, all made some significant contributions to Martha's Vineyard. This book recognizes their efforts.
I arranged the book in chronological order, with a bit of historical significance, so there are lots of bits of info to find out. Vanguards covers Island history from colonialism, through the whaling and tourism industries, down to life on the Island today.
The book can be read out of order, sampled, or cover to cover. Many names are familiar, but there are also a few people whose life was off the beaten path or below the radar.
