Climate Change Discussion – Solid Waste Stream on MV, Recycling, Food Waste (reduction, recovery, composting)
Solid Waste Stream on MV, Recycling, Food Waste (reduction, recovery, composting)
What happens to our waste? Our trash? Our recycling? Our food waste?
WHERE does it all go? How does it get there?
What does it cost? Who pays? HOW do we pay?
Can a RECYCLING load be REJECTED? Why? Does this ever happen? What is the cost to the island? Can we prevent this?
Did you know . . .
(the equivalent to about 260 freight boats) ?
What can WE do to reduce waste?
What can WE do to limit REJECTED loads?
What can WE do to reduce costs?
Join us Saturday, January 10th 1:30pm – 3pm at the Oak Bluffs Public Library. We’ll learn about the
· Big picture of solid waste management on the island over the last couple of decades
· Dos and Don’ts of recycling on MV
· Current state of Food waste (initiatives in our schools, our towns and island-wide)
We’ll touch on COMPOSTING initiatives and look to a future program on Composting – at home and island-wide, plus the efforts here to address food security.
Our panel of local experts, who work on these issues across the island, include:
· Sakiko Isomichi – Climate Resilience Planner at the MVC, coordinating Climate Action Plan / CAP implementation
