Climate Change Discussion – Preparing for Extreme Weather Together

May 30 @ 1:30 pm - 3:00 pm
  • How ready are we for the next extreme weather event?
  • Did you know that all Island towns are working together to prepare for extreme weather like hurricanes, blizzards, extreme heat and wildfire?
  • The process included seeking, listening and incorporating the concerns of vulnerable populations like older adults, people with disabilities and other at-risk populations.
  • All Island towns are updating their resilience priorities with an emphasis on community resilience, in addition to municipal resilience. This is to better prepare for extreme weather and a changing climate—like last February’s blizzard or a future hurricane in peak summer season when our population swells.  Through this process, communities have identified key local climate priorities.
  • Using a state grant of $50K per town, island towns will soon launch seed projects to address those priorities.  With a strong focus on supporting our most vulnerable residents, we are building resilience across the island. This session will share an interim findings report and review the seed projects the Island towns will work on going forward … and how we all might be able to help.

This Community Climate Discussion is sponsored by the Oak Bluffs Climate & Energy Advisory Committee, and the Oak Bluffs Public Library. Join us in person or remotely for this presentation, discussion and Q&A.  You may Zoom in at
