Carolyn Quick Tillery : HBCU Cookbook Author

Carolyn Quick Tillery, a TuskegeeInstitute (now University) alumna, is a former United States Air Force officer,prosecuting attorney, and policy analyst for a federal agency in Washington,D.C. Carolyn writes Historically Black College and Universities (HBCU)cookbooks, which perfectly blend her passion for food and history.

A five-time published author, Carolyn’sHBCU cookbooks include “Southern Homecoming Traditions” (Atlanta UniversityConsortium), “Celebrating Our Equality” (Howard University), “A Taste ofFreedom” (Hampton University), and “The African American Heritage Cookbook:Traditional Recipes and Fond Remembrances from Alabama’s Renowned TuskegeeInstitute.”  Notably, celebrity chefMarcus Samuelsson listed it among his six favorite things in “Parade Magazine.”Additionally, “USA Today” featured it in a review of “Twelve EssentialCookbooks by Black Chefs and Authors,” and “Library Journal” recognized itas one of “a handful of great U.S. regional cookbooks.” Furthermore, “The AfricanAmerican Heritage Cookbook” was recently highlighted in “Garden and GunMagazine.” Carolyn, also the author of “The Military Wives Cookbook,” hasappeared on the Food Network, local television, and as a guest on NationalPublic Radio (NPR). She has presented her work at the prestigious Miami BookFestival and the AJC Decatur Book Festival.

Carolyn, a member of Zeta Phi BetaSorority Incorporated, Omicron Phi Zeta Chapter, resides in Northern Virginianear her daughter, Ashley, and Ashley’s family. She is a proud grandmother toone “grandpawter,” Nona. Currently, Carolyn is writing her firstnovel, which is set on the campus of a Southern Historically Black College orUniversity (HBCU).
