Book Talk – “First in the House” with Lorna Rainey

July 18 @ 11:30 am - 1:30 pm

LORNA RAINEY is the great-granddaughter of Joseph Hayne Rainey, the first Black Congressman. Born enslaved on a rice plantation just outside Georgetown, South Carolina, in December 1870 he took his seat in that venerated Hall of democracy.
From familial history as well as many years of research, Lorna has written a book chronicling the Life and accomplishments of Congressman Rainey. She has made it her mission to share the story of how he overcame so many obstacles to make history.
In her professional Life, Lorna has challenged the status quo in the entertainment industry. She decided to tackle the inequalities in show business by finding ways to break down the barriers which prevented so- called minority performers from achieving their dreams and therefore making sure POC were adequately represented in all forms of media. Whether in print, on TV or radio, in film or commercials, Lorna, under the umbrella of her company The Talent Express has leveled the playing field in entertainment. Founded in 1991, The Talent Express is well-known in the industry and enjoys a high ranking among all similar companies worldwide. In addition to The Talent Express, her production company, Rainey Film and Media, is poised to produce the docudrama about Congressman Rainey as well as other media projects to share stories of inspiration, courage and success.
