Besting the Bivalve: Learn How to Shuck with the Shellfish Group
Martha’s Vineyard Shellfish Group welcomes novice, intermediate, and experienced shuckers to attend a lesson on various shucking methods, bivalve anatomy, and what to do with your excess shells. We encourage everyone to take advantage of our free island-wide Shell Recovery Program that supports restoration in the great ponds. Tools, tips and tricks will be shared and all equipment will be provided for the hands-on portion. Please reach out to Nina Ferry Montanile with questions: nina@mvshellfishgroup.org
This event will take place at the Oak Bluffs Public Library Meeting Room. Registration is required for this program, please email oakb_mail@clamsnet.org to register or call 508-693-9433.
Maritime Month is funded by the Gordon Goodwin Maritime Fund, facilitated by the Library Friends of Oak Bluffs. This program is a collaborative effort partially sponsored by a Slough Farm Foundation grant to connect people to aquaculture and increase access to local shellfish.
