American Sign Language Class
January 17, 2023 @ 1:00 pm - 3:00 pm
Did you know that the Vineyard had its own sign language that was used from the early 18th century to 1952? On MV, hearing people and Deaf people were seen as equals, and this form of sign language was used island-wide by people of all hearing abilities.
Join Donna Jancsy during her 4 workshops in January for a beginner’s introduction to ASL. Each week participants will master new vocabulary, learn signs to a song, and hear the deep history of ASL on Martha’s Vineyard.
Donna is a CODA (Child of Deaf Adult), an RN, and has a bachelor’s degree in ASL/English interpreting. No registration is required for this class. For questions, email hburbidge@clamsnet.org or call 508-694-9433.
