In honor of Gordon Goodwin, a long-time resident of Martha’s Vineyard and an avid fisherman, a fund was donated by his family to the Library Friends of Oak Bluffs. This fund has supported a number of book purchases about Maritime life, trade, history, and figures. Six years ago, we realized one of the best ways to keep locals and visitors engaged in their maritime environment was to help them enjoy it today. Ever since, the Library Friends of Oak Bluffs and the Goodwind Fund have generously supported a month of engaging programing each September to bring people together and learn what living on an island affords us.
In 2022, we are focusing on a number of ecology-related activities and talks, where islanders and visitors can learn about the marine environment around us and how to best utilize, protect, and conserve it for future generations. We are fortunate to have the support of Selectperson Emma Green-Beach, also the Executive Director of Martha’s Vineyard Shellfish Group, the town’s Shellfish Department, and many other individuals and local groups.
