The Pandemic Haze Series
At the start of the pandemic I was frightened and restless. My mother is in an independent living home with communal spaces. At the time my older sister was a nurse, my younger sister an EMT. I have asthma. Everything about life seemed fragile.
I generally walk the Oak Bluffs shoreline at dawn, but in those days I found myself outdoors again in the afternoon, wandering around the old
neighborhoods. Eventually I was drawn to the decorative details on the
historic homes and campground cottages. I decided to photograph them up close. I like the idea that for those unfamiliar with Oak Bluffs the images appear to be abstract, while for the rest of us they are a colorful reminder of the town’s quirky charm.
The wandering, picture-taking, and editing helped occupy my time and
ease my anxiety. Now that we are coming out of our pandemic shells I
hope these photographs bring you some cheer.
