NMAAHC Director Kevin Young In Conversation
August 6 @ 10:00 am - 12:00 pm
Join us for a conversation with Andrew W. Mellon Director, Kevin Young and Deputy Director, Dr.
Michelle Commander of the Smithsonian’s National Museum of African American History and Culture.
These two leaders will share updates about the Museum, discuss the impact of their collections
including the histories shared in the Museum’s Power of Place exhibition, which features Oak Bluffs and
Martha’s Vineyard, and look to the future of the Museum by highlighting the Living History Campaign
and early thoughts about how the Museum will approach its commemoration of America’s 250th
milestone. We look forward to what will be a lively and inspiring conversation.
Kevin Young is the Andrew W. Mellon Director of the Smithsonian’s National Museum of African
American History and Culture. As the nation’s largest museum dedicated to telling the African American
story, the 19th museum in the Smithsonian complex welcomes 2 million annual visitors and engages an
international audience through world-class online programming and digital access to its collections.
