The Oak Bluffs Library was awarded funding to provide digital skill training to our community. The program is funded by Libraries Lead with Digital Skills, which was created so that local libraries can combine their own program offerings with Grow with Google training materials to offer virtual community workshops or other activities aimed at empowering small businesses to grow online or assisting job seekers to prepare for and find work.
We are pleased to announce two training sessions in July 2020.
To make this free course beneficial, we have to limit the number of participants. Registration for the course is required and even though we will offer two complementary classes, on Wednesday July 1st and Wednesday July 8th, you do not have to register for both classes.

First training : July 1
Connect your small business to your customers: An Introduction to Google business tools, a free class offered by The Oak Bluffs Library
When: Wednesday July 1st, 90 minutes; 1:00pm- 2:30pm
Program description: Join our Reference and Technology Librarian, Nina Ferry to learn how to connect with customers and manage your business remotely. In the new world of Covid-19 social distancing and the move to virtual services, the library has partnered with Google and the Public Library Association to help patrons increase their technology skills. In the first class of two remote technology courses, you will learn an overview of various Google business tools, including:
- Claim your business listing
- Update information
- Chat with customers
- Respond to reviews
- Use Google Chat to host meetings with employees or workshops with customers (G-Suite Business has many free offerings until September 30th, 2020)

How to use Google Drive: an Introduction to Cloud services. General skill building for anyone, including entrepreneurs and small business owners, a free class offered by The Oak Bluffs Library
When: Wednesday July 8th, 90 minutes; 1:00pm- 2:30pm
Program description: In the new world of Covid-19 social distancing and the move to virtual services, the library has partnered with Google and the Public Library Association to help patrons increase their technology skills. If you aren’t sure what the Cloud is, or you want to connect with friends, co-workers, staff, or customers, join our Reference and Technology Librarian, Nina Ferry to learn how to connect and manage remote documents and communication. In this second class of two remote technology courses, you will learn how to access self taught resources from the library’s website and PLA’s DigitalLearn program. In the class, we review:
- What is the Cloud?
- The Gmail email platform and free products included with it
- What is Google Drive?
- What is Google Docs?
- How can you use the above tools to connect with others and be productive?
