Step Up and Be Counted

Dedicated to the proposition that a library is more than just a place to lend books, the Library Friends of Oak Bluffs has been raising money to support library activities for the past 25 years.  The funding supplied by the LFOB helps the Oak Bluffs Public Library remain the vibrant center of the community that it is today.

Now is the time to step up and pledge support for your library with a handsome, tax-deductible donation to the Library Friends.  Just think of the adult and children’s programs and activities that LFOB sponsorship and funding helps sustain, including

Ÿ    •Jazz lecture series, Author talks and free Yoga

Ÿ   •NEW! for 2013 – ADULT  Summer Reading Program,

featuring Book Bingo contest and a Book Trivia Night

Ÿ   •Birding the Vineyard and Undersea Photography

Ÿ   •Summer reading and year-round children’s programs.

In addition, the Library Friends of Oak Bluffs fund such beloved annual events as the Holiday Open House, the spring Easter Egg Hunt, the fall Halloween Party and the Book Drives leading up to the gigantic July Book Sale.  You can find out about these and other upcoming programs on the library’s newly revamped and award-winning website at

New Children’s Librarian

We have a very special announcement:

We’ve hired a new Children’s Librarian!

Zoe Pechter used to own Riley’s Reads in Vineyard Haven, but she closed the store to get her Masters in Library and Information Science and just graduated! She’ll be starting here in June, so make sure you stop in to meet her.

We are going to have a little party to celebrate- with refreshments and crafts for the little ones.

meet zoe

Please join us Friday, June 14th from 3-5 to meet Zoe!

We’ve Made Some Changes

In order to make more room for our growing collection of Large Print and Mystery books, we’ve moved the magazines upstairs!

The magazines are now located adjacent to the public computers. Newspapers are now located in the Special Collections room.

We have comfy chairs and lots of light in this room, so grab something to read and have a seat!

What did we do with all the space downstairs, you ask? Well:

Audiobooks are where the magazines were!

And now we have a ton of room to spread out the DVDs! Blu-Ray, Foreign, and Non-Fiction/Documentaries have their own little place now.

We’re loving these changes- it’s going to be very beneficial to have room for the collection to expand.

How do you feel about the changes? What should we fill our shelves with, now that we have room? Email us your answers:
