Monthly Archives: June 2007
Today we had a ‘blast’ making rockets, flag design on heart necklaces with red, white and blue beads and gimp, a clothespin doll Uncle Sam & Besty Ross, and a USA, stars, and flag hats card! It was a lot of fun and everyone worked really hard on projects they could be proud of ! Happy Fourth of July everyone! As you can see from the photos, the OB library kids are ready for it!

Are you looking forward to the new Harry Potter book on July 21? There’s a rumour 2 major characters will be killed off. Who do you think it will be? What do you think or hope will happen? Will you miss the series? Are you glad it’s ending? You can post your opinions here.
Do you love pink? Do you love Princesses? A lot of little girls do, and they came out in droves to enjoy reading about princesses and people who love pink in fun books such as Double Pink by Kate Feiffer, Pinkalicous by Victoria and Elizabeth Kann, Priscilla and the Pink Planet by N. Hobbie and more!
Some children wore pink outfits, or princess outfits, or outfits with a touch of glitter!
Our children created beautiful, sparkling tiaras then frosted a chocolate or a vanilla cupcake with pink frosting with sprinkles! It was a really sweet and fun program.
We had a great time with Coco the Clown during PreSchool Story Time in May! See the photo of a fun PARADE , marching with musical instruments. The children got to see a woman transform herself into a clown before their eyes, they got dressed up, the balanced on a ‘tight rope’ and had lots of fun.
On Thursday evening Michael Wooley, a local swimming teacher and lifeguard as well as an accomplished visual artist, presented his recent underwater photographs taken on a scuba diving trip to the second largest barrier reef in the world off the coast of Belize.
A crowd of approximately 30 people attended the event and were mesmerized by the slideshow of beautiful photographs (taken by Michael) projected onto the library’s big screen.
Michael spoke about the rich ecosystem of the coral reef and provided the names of numerous fish, corals, plants, and animals that he encountered during his undersea adventure.
Afterwards, everyone enjoyed refreshments while asking Michael questions about his trip and the incredible artwork that he creates (on display for the event)!
Please check our online events calendar to learn about more interesting programs happening at the Oak Bluffs Public Library!
The Book Discussion Group recently met to talk about the book “Empire Falls”, written by Richard Russo. The novel won the Pulitzer Prize for Fiction in 2002 and led to some interesting discussion by attendees.
